What’s good people! Here I am again, the self-proclaimed Editor-In-Chief of “What’s Poppin In TaSciEn”, spitting straight facts and reporting in on the latest developments and events of the TaSciEn-verse with a little spice of metacommentary and funny jokes (they really are funny, I laugh at them myself, okay). In addition to all the grandiose tournaments, competitions and collaborations we have organized so far, we also provide a chance for our club members to bond and socialize in a more relaxing setting, playing some board games while eating candies, muffins and cake. On October 4 th we have organized a board game evening just for that. After all, a good friendship is made even stronger after a good game of UNO or Exploding Kittens, especially when your “friends” keep on stealing your cards and ganging up on you and screwing over your strategies and… But I digress, it really is all good fun with no hard feelings behind it. None at all, it’s all cool, honest. I do not keep the list of people I am going to +4 in UNO next time under my pillow or anything.
Moving on, we have had quite a turnout of people this board game evening and everyone enjoyed their time getting to know new people or catching up with their friends while playing together. The cake and muffins were succulent and sublime, contributing further to the great mood in the Language Kitchen that evening. As the amount of our members grows, we will be able to bring even more people closer so that we can all have fun together! Finally, TaSciEn thanks all the attendees of the event and we can’t wait for you to see what we have cooking up next! Greetings, fellow internet friends and strangers! Your favorite Editor-In-Chief of "What's Poppin' in TaSciEn" here, reporting for duty and ready for some more good ol’ pen-and-quill action! Fasten your seatbelts, because we are about to jump into hyperspace! May 4 th is a very special day for many geeks all over the world. To clarify, I am not talking about the Chinese revolution and sociopolitical reform movement from the beginning of the 20 th century which shares the same name, but still, here’s a shoutout to all the history geeks out there. For us fellow science nerds this day is an occasion to celebrate the genre-defining piece of science fiction known as Star Wars. However, just as Yoda once said: “Occasion for celebration, there is another”. In the year of 2018, on the Fourth of May, TaSciEn was officially founded. Last May, our small baby club has turned 1 year old. Obviously, for us and all of our members that was a very big day that called for a legendary birthday party! We had many of our members attending our anniversary celebration and sharing the expertly crafted cake with us! We give special thanks to Hiukkanen who blessed us with our first birthday jallu and Esa Rasanen for being present on the event and giving us the baby champagne showers!
TaSciEn is still quite a small (but rapidly expanding) club that slowly learns how to walk on its own. We know that there is a long way ahead of us to build a huge community and become a proper guild, but with your continuous support we will grow and persevere! With that being said, we owe everything to our members, and we will continue to do our best, so thank you for sticking around with us and let’s fill the second year of TaSciEn with even more fond memories together! Why hello there! Glad you came around to check out the latest issue of "What's Poppin' in TaSciEn"! Your Editor-In-Chief here has been on fire recently, catching up on all the article deadlines to provide you with only the best and spiciest content! It would be an understatement to say that of all months of the year, April is the favorite month of any teekkari and fuksi alike. Why, might you ask? Five letters. Two weeks. Dozens of events. Metric tons of alcohol. Have you guessed yet? Why, yes, of course I am talking about Wappu! The last two weeks of April mark the biggest celebration of teekkari culture all over Finland, which culminates in fuksi dipping, a once-in-a-lifetime event for any technical student. Students unite to delay the impending (and sadly inevitable) collective hangover of May the 2 nd , with jallu as the only cure and salvation. However, Wappu is known as a cultural event not only for the drinking that ensues, but also for various events organized by the student guilds and clubs. This year being the first Wappu for TaSciEn, we have also organized our very own Wappu event as well! Seeing how Easter happens during Wappu, we felt like some old-fashioned Easter egg scavenger hunting was in order. Hence, the hunt for the Easter bunny began!
Our members have once again demonstrated their incredible endurance, intelligence and wit while exploring the Hervanta campus and gathering the clues necessary to complete the hunt. The stakes were high, the competition tough, but the enticing price of a big, mean, sexy, fat chocolate CHUNGUS of a bunny kept people going. Winners snatched their victory by a tight margin, showing commendable sportsmanship. Still, all the participating teams did very well and TaSciEn plans to make the event better, faster and stronger next Wappu! Until then, stay tuned! Hey there people! It’s been a while since you have heard from me, some anonymous person from the internet and the self-proclaimed Editor-In-Chief of the most trustworthy self-proclaimed TaSciEn news source "What's Poppin' in TaSciEn"! As a matter of fact, quite a few things have been poppin’ indeed and I can’t wait to tell you about them. One of the events comes from a while back, actually from last March (boooo me and throw rotten tomatoes at me for reporting this so late, I totally earned it). Back then, TaSciEn threw its first really huge collaboration event, with Hiukkanen and TiTe no less! I am of course talking about the Tri-Pong Beer Pong Tournament. Fellow wizards from all over Hervanta campus of Tampere University joined the noble cause of fighting their greatest enemy as of yet, “that which must not be named”: sobriety! Image courtesy: Hiukkanen The atmosphere in Bommari that evening was truly magical, as you could feel the competitive power of our participants. In addition to fellow Hiukkanen and TiTe people, quite a few people from INTO have joined the fun. Keeping the same spirit as the similarly named tournament from a certain British fantasy novel series, which we shall not mention to avoid being sued for copyright infringement, we aimed to bring locals and internationals, united by our love for science and engineering, so this outcome could not be better.
The tournament was indeed quite a sight to behold. Congratulations to the winners of the tournament, may the glory this victory brings upon you inspire you to attend even more of our events! We would also like to express our infinite gratitude to all of the participants, as without you this event would not be possible. Here at TaSciEn HQ we want to provide you with only the best events possible and we promise to keep on doing just that. |
